Behind the Scenes: Balancing Business and the Outdoors

As I hit my 29th birthday, I couldn’t help but reflect on the year ahead and the journey so far. Taking my business full-time has been an incredible experience—full of challenges, growth, and plenty of hours in front of a screen. But if this year has taught me anything, it’s the importance of balance.

I’ve spent years pouring my energy into graphic design and video production, which I love, but as 30 approaches, I’m craving something more—something that gets me out from behind the desk and into the great outdoors. That’s why I’ve set myself a new challenge: to climb 30 Munros before I turn 30.

For those who don’t know, Munros are Scottish mountains over 3,000 feet tall. There are 282 of them, and I’ve decided that 30 sounds like a good start. It’s not just about bagging peaks; it’s about finding balance, fuelling my creativity in a different way, and taking on something new.

I kicked off this challenge on my birthday with a climb up Ben Lomond. It was a classic Scottish summer day—wet, windy, and, honestly, a bit of a slog. The views from the top? Let’s just say they were as elusive as a Scottish heatwave. But that’s okay. Sometimes, it’s not about the view at the top but the journey itself.

Climbing Ben Lomond wasn’t just about ticking off my first Munro; it was a reminder of why I’m doing this. Whether it’s in business or on the mountain, every step forward builds resilience, sharpens your skills, and prepares you for whatever’s next. And sometimes, it’s less about the destination and more about the satisfaction of cracking open a well-earned beer at the end (thanks to Lucky Saint for that one).

This Munro challenge is also a chance to express my creativity in a personal outlet. While I love creating through design and video, there’s something refreshing about stepping away from the computer and finding inspiration in the wild. The mountains offer a different kind of creative fuel—one that’s about pushing boundaries and embracing the unpredictable.

As I head into this final year of my 20s, I’m focused on blending work, play, and personal growth in a way that feels fulfilling. There are 282 Munros out there, and I’m aiming to tackle 30 of them. It’s a challenge that will push me, but also one that will remind me to step back, breathe, and enjoy the view—whether it’s from a mountain peak or the completion of a creative project.
