Over the holidays, I worked with Kelsey Ewen Coaching on a proof-of-concept shoot in a public gym, testing ideas and gathering insights ahead of a full-day private gym session. This initial shoot laid the groundwork for something bigger, helping us refine poses, angles, and concepts to ensure the main shoot delivers maximum impact. In this merch design project for BQR x Oakes Garage, I was tasked with capturing the spirit of a decade-long friendship between Josh and Jimmy Oakes. Blending their BMX roots with their love for motorsport, we created a bold, gritty design inspired by classic American car garage branding. In the fast-paced world of MMA, capturing the attention of fans is crucial, and promotional graphics play a vital role in this process. For Mark Ewen, a professional fighter in the PFL, I had the opportunity to create both Fight Week and Fight Night graphics that reflected his personality and the energy of the sport. Choosing a classic serif typeface allowed me to draw viewers in, creating a classy yet powerful aesthetic that contrasts with the typical use of bold, stylised oblique sans serif fonts often seen in sports graphics. Promotional materials don’t have to be mundane; with thoughtful design, they can tell a compelling story and enhance an athlete's brand. As I approach my 29th birthday, I’ve been reflecting on the journey so far and what lies ahead. Taking my business full-time has been an incredible experience—filled with challenges, growth, and a few too many hours in front of a screen. But with 30 on the horizon, I’ve realised it’s time to balance the scales. That’s why I’ve set myself a new challenge: to climb 30 Munros before I turn 30.
